Sonitus Mortis - Death Metal Drum Machine
Version 0.9.9 Beta (March 7th 2009)
===========================================
Copyright (c) 2009 - Oliver Winterholler
Description:
------------
Sonitus Mortis is an easy to use drum machine with tuplet- and multi-sample support. It is aimed at musicians that are into progressive styles of music which require high bpm numbers, lots of tempo changes and odd time signatures (i.e. technical death metal).
Due to its simplicity it is ideal for guitar/bass practice, but thanks to its high quality audio output it can also be used for music production.
System requirements:
--------------------
- Windows 32 or 64-bit operating system with DirectX 3 or newer installed (Windows XP or Vista recommended)
- Sound card
Key features:
-------------
- Simple user interface inspired by classic MOD trackers
- High quality audio output thanks to BASS audio engine
- Support for WAV, OGG and MP3 samples
- Support for multiple samples per instrument with either random or velocity based sample picking
- Export to WAV at up to 32-bit, 96000 Hz
- Export feature supports timing fluctuations to emulate human imperfections
...and it's FREEWARE!
Possible features for future releases:
--------------------------------------
- MIDI export
- Ability to mute or solo tracks / instruments
- Ability to create templates for standard drum beats
- Faster / nicer GUI
Why all that?
-------------
Yes, i know there already are a lot of drum machines out there. So why did i have to develop my own?
Well, most drum sequencers are either very powerful in features but complicated to use, or easy to use but unsuitable for complex music. I tried to cover the middle ground: Easy to use AND good for complex music.
I think i achieved that for the most part, but i'm sure you will have your own opinion about that ;-)
General information:
--------------------
- Sonitus Mortis was developed using Borland Turbo Delphi 2006 Explorer
- Sonitus Mortis uses BASS audio library by un4seen developments (
http://www.un4seen.com/
)
I highly recommend BASS to developers who are looking for an easy to use, robust and lightweight audio engine. It really is a joy to work with!
Program version history:
------------------------
0.9.9 Beta (March 7th 2009):
- First public release
Final words:
------------
I would really love to hear the music you created using Sonitus Mortis! Of course it doesn't have to be metal to be interesting for me. Everything is welcome!
You can either send me an e-mail with links to your creations, or post them in my forum. Thank you in advance for that!
Have fun and be creative!

I will create a help file once i find the time for it - sorry for that!
Did you download the demo project? This should help you to find out how it works.
To create a song from scratch you have to:
1. Add at least one instrument
2. Add at least one pattern (the pattern will be added to the song sequence automatically)
3. Add at least one track to this pattern
4. Select an instrument for this track (by right-clicking on the "- Empty -" instument description)
5. Add/Remove hits to this track by left-clicking the grid cells in the pattern editor
I hope this helps a bit.
