Hi I cannot find the INI file for manually setting initial u/l d/l settings under WinXP, so I can input my current useage eg 1.5Gb d/l .6Gb u/l. Your readme says it should be in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\NetMeter for Vista, but where for XP?
Setting should be able to be entered in edit box in Totals screen IMHO if you have the time to do it.

The settings and traffic logs are being stored in the same folder as the NetMeter.exe unless you are using Vista.
The .ini-file only holds program settings, not traffic data. Traffic data is being stored in the file NetMeter.tlg which has a proprietary binary format.
Currently there is no way for the end user to edit the traffic log file.
I'm planning on changing that for future releases though.

Unfortunately, its no use to me without being able to preset.

Do you have any idea when you may update it. Would suggest that to shift that data to INI file might be easiest in the interum?

I won't put any traffic data into the INI-file because it simply doesn't belong there.
INI-files are for storing settings - that's it.

No offense, but trying to put pressure on me surely won't help. If NetMeter is of no use to you then don't use it. It's as simple as that.

I am a programmer too - Ive even written a netmeter similar product:
http://freewarelist.net/ADSLmeter.html
Yours is better but mine has the ability to enter preset data.
I was not meaning to put pressure on you - the product is free and you have other responsibilities. All I am suggesting what may be the needs of others, and I wanted a rough idea when/if you were going to implement a change.
Kind regards,
Alistair.

I am aware that some users need a feature like this. As i said i am very likely going to implement it. Currently i'm not completely sure how it will look like in the end, but it will be one of the next things to work on.

What i can promise is, that it won't take several years (like the last update) Wink

Kind regards,

Yes, I know how it is, my own software has gone stagnant since I have been doing something else for a few months.

Would really finish off a good product to be able to preset the start values. One way around it and I will do it today is when the period runs out to use the [RESET] within Netmeter.

A nice feature you have implemented is the balloon popup which advises that your trend is likely to exceed the allowed limit.
Cheers,
Alistair.
